G2 Esports Wins the Red Bull Home Ground Valorant Invitational

Red Bull does their best every year to bring us the most exciting moments in esports, and this weekend was no exception with their Home Ground Valorant Invitational. The grand finals were G2 Esports vs. Team Liquid, with G2 coming home as the Red Bull Home Ground champions. It was exciting to see such high-skill Valorant action going down, and even more so to see G2 Esports show why they’re one of the most must-see orgs in the world.

G2 vs. Liquid: 3-2

Home Ground was hosted by Red Bull and was in partnership with AOC to bring us some intense Valorant action. Map dominance was the key to success. G2 Esports had that in spades and were crowned champions of this Red Bull event. This also saw them take home their share of a £24,000 prize pool. That’s not an amount to sniff at.

Across four days, the best of Europe went to battle! By the best, we mean G2, Team Liquid, SUMN FC, Ninjas in Pyjamas, Futbolist, Guild Esports, FrenzyGoKill, and the new Monkey Business. But what was so unique about the format? Each team picks their strongest map as their Home Ground. Those maps are then played first in a single-elimination, Bo5 bracket. If a team wins both home grounds, they instantly win the Bo5. Also, Yoru was banned for this event.

It was cool to see such a unique format for a tournament, and we hope to see more like it in the Valorant esports scene. G2 and Liquid both secured wins on both of their home ground picks and went on to battle across a series of very close matches. The final battle was on Ascent, G2 taking the win 3-2, 13-10 on the last map, which led to G2 Esports being the Red Bull Home Ground champions.

Aleksander “zeek” Gygmunt spoke about the event. “It’s even bigger for me than the rest of the teammates because it’s my first big tournament win, so I’m super hyped. You can see it on my face. I’m smiling all the time. I joined the best team, but I know I’m one of the best players in the game right now.”

It seems the first of Red Bull’s Valorant events since the Red Bull Campus Clutch’s reveal. We can hopefully only look forward to more exciting matches. GG to G2 Esports and everyone else who took part! We can’t wait to see what comes next time!
